What is a Graduate Master Remodeler? Read on to find out more about this professional distinction.

When it comes to home remodeling contractors, not all are equal, and choosing a trusted, certified professional can make all the difference. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) offers home remodeling professionals a variety of opportunities to improve their skills and grow professionally through earning certifications and designations, including one of the industry’s highest accolades: Graduate Master Remodeler.

What is a Graduate Master Remodeler?
According to the NAHB, Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR) is a designation that “allows a Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR) to attain further recognition for his or her commitment to educational excellence and longevity in the remodeling industry. The GMR is designed to be the master level of the CGR designation.”

How does someone become a Graduate Master Remodeler?
To be eligible to become a GMR, individuals must have at least 15 years of remodeling experience. Additionally, they must have been an active CGR for at least five years or have been certified by the National Association of Remodeling Industry as a Certified Remodeler for at least 10 years. Individuals who meet these rigorous experience requirements must complete five additional GMR courses and agree to a code of ethics.

Why choose a Graduate Master Remodeler?
Simply put, GMRs are remodeling experts with a wealth of knowledge and experience. They know the industry, have a history of success, stay up-to-date with current trends, and most importantly, listen to their clients. By choosing a GMR, or other designated home remodeler, you know you are making the best decision.

How do I find a Graduate Master Remodeler?
You can check the designation of any home remodeler through the NAHB’s directories website. This website allows you to search for a professional by name or company to verify their certifications. If you do not have a specific professional in mind, you can search for quality professionals and companies in your area using the location and designation filters.

At Criner Remodeling, we know homeowners have high standards for their chosen contractor. That is why we believe in constantly pursuing professional growth opportunities and seeking the industry’s leading designations for our company—it is part of our legacy. Robert Criner, President and Owner of Criner Remodeling, was the first remodeler in the nation to be certified by the NAHB as a Certified Graduate Remodeler and the first to be designated as a GMR as well. In addition to Robert’s designations, Criner Remodeling is also a lead-safe certified firm, a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, and a Certified Green Professional.
