Paul Criner, Vice President of Criner Remodeling, started with the company shortly after graduating high school. He started as a helper, working his way up to becoming a project manager, then to a production manager in charge of all Criner Remodeling’s projects. He has since moved into sales and design where he often uses his experiences in the field to assist his current design work. Throughout his career he has been committed to continuing education through TNCC and the National Association of Home Builders, becoming a Certified Aging in Place Specialist, Certified Green Professional, and a Certified Graduate Remodeler.

He has served in the following organizations:

  • 2023 – Speaker at the International Builder Show
  • 2023-Present, Habitat for Humanity PGW Board Member

Robert Criner, president of Criner Remodeling, founded the company in 1977 and has led the company to grow into a successful and profitable business for over 45 years. Criner began working for a remodeling contractor in the summer of 1972, when he started his own one-man operation. Today the company has a team of over a dozen professionals in the remodeling industry. Criner is constantly involved in both the remodeling industry and the community and has given back in numerous ways both locally and nationally.

He has served in the following organizations:

A lifelong resident of Yorktown, Ben has been with Criner for 18 years. His favorite part of the job is helping clients bring their vision to life.

He and his wife have two boys, and he’s very proud of the young men that they’ve grown to be. When he gets some downtime, Ben loves sailing and spending time with his family.

Born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, Sarah began her career in interior design back in 2011. She’s passionate about creating functional, beautiful spaces tailored to each client’s unique needs and lifestyle and especially loves collaborating with talented teams to bring thoughtful designs to life.

Outside of work, Sarah spends her time with her two dogs, Luke and Leia. When she’s not out playing ball with them, you’ll likely find her painting, relaxing at the beach, or enjoying time with family and friends.

A Seattle native who’s called this area home since 2022, Heidi has been with Criner for 3 years. For her, the best part of the job is simple, the people.

Outside of work, she’s usually crocheting, kayaking, or off on a cruise. She absolutely loves her dog, Bo. Heidi’s proudest of her ability to find humor even in tough situations.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, this longtime Criner team member moved to the area in 1984 and has been with the company for 17 years. What he enjoys most about the job is meeting interesting people from all walks of life.

He and his wife have built a big, loving family together, three daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild! His hobbies include woodworking and fishing.

Project Manager

Alex grew up in Mt. Crawford, Virginia, and moved to Williamsburg in 2020. He’s been with Criner for 6 years, having started his construction career right after high school. What keeps things interesting for Alex is doing something different every day.

He has two kids, Noah and Gabriela, plus their dog, Winter. A woodworking enthusiast in his spare time, Alex says his children and family are what he’s most proud of.

JR was born in Riverdale, Maryland, but he calls Yorktown home. He has only been part of the Criner team a short time, though he’s no stranger to the trade. Ask him his favorite part of the job and he’ll tell you, with a laugh, that it’s lunch.

When he’s not on a job site, you’ll find him riding his Harley or spending time with his girlfriend, Lynn McDonald. JR takes real pride in his work ethic.

Al is a Philadelphia native who moved to the area in 2023 and joined Criner in 2025. What keeps him going? Seeing clients fall in love with the finished product.

At home, Al and his wife Courtney share their lives with two dogs, Pan and Gus. When he’s not working, he enjoys target shooting and watching baseball. He’s most proud of his wife and his service in the Army.

Jett was born and raised in Gloucester VA and started with Criner in 2023. In his free time he enjoys building large-scale LEGO models of historical Navy ships. Jett’s favorite part of the job is bringing the Criner team’s beautiful designs to life.

Coming from a large family, being part of the Criner team feels like home and gives him a sense of pride in the work he accomplishes.

Hailing from Gloucester, Josh has been part of the Criner team for 2 years. What he loves most about the job is the people: coworkers, tradesmen, and clients alike.

Josh comes from a big family of six brothers and sisters, and he and his girlfriend recently welcomed a son, Roman. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and heading to the beach.
