“The homeowners had a gorgeous marble patio and custom in-ground pool that they could not use because there was no shade—the sun reflected off the marble, even on overcast days. Building a pool house with an extended roofline created the deep shade they needed to enjoy the space. The roofline (and the resulting shade) were modeled to predict the shadows throughout the day and year.
An outdoor kitchen underneath the extended roof added more function to the project and helped integrate the new with the old. To match the existing house, which has cedar shake with unique curved rooflines, the design team outfitted the pool house with cedar shake siding and a curved, standing seam metal roof. The structure also stands on its own as an architectural composition.”
